Jason Carvalho and Kevin Nickell, co-owners and founders of BarrelHouse Brewing Company, have been lifelong friends and business partners for the past 6 years as commercial building contractors. For the past several years, they had been looking at diversifying and starting a new business. After several months of persuasion, Jason convinced Kevin that they should venture into the brewing industry since they had so much fun homebrewing with friends. Several months later they found a Canadian brewery that was expanding and selling its brewhouse. Two days later they flew up to inspect the equipment and pay their deposit. They told fellow homebrewer and friend Chris Vaughn about their recent purchase and their plan to start a microbrewery and he immediately replied, “I’m in!” They scoured the Central Coast looking for the perfect location to house their new adventure. Six months later the three of them flew back to Canada to decommission, dismantle and load out their new equipment. One week later the equipment arrived at its current location. They spent the next several months designing and building the brewery themselves piece by piece. The rest is history in the making!
